Greetings. My name is Witisu-Ninamich, which translates into "Little Bear" from the Karuk language. My ancestral roots are of the Wiyot and Karuk tribes and I am a member of a federally recognized tribe. I am a descendant of tribal leaders and medicine people, and I am also a medicine man. The Wiyots and Karuks are indigenous to the Northern California area. The Wiyots are located at Humboldt Bay and along the Pacific coast to the north and south. Karuk territory extends eastward along the Klamath towards the majestic Mount Shasta.

I have always enjoyed creating native crafts. It helps me stay in touch with my heritage and gives me a sense of pride. In 1992 I established Mauweema Trading Company so that I could share my creations with others. I love going out to the forests, beaches and rivers and gathering the materials it takes to make these items. The wondrous diversity of the beautiful Pacific Northwest has created a palette of color and texture that allows me to create spontaneously and freely.
